Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, the Democratic vice-presidential nominee, has officially committed to participating in a debate scheduled for October 1, 2024. The debate, which will be hosted by CBS News in New York City, would be the first vice-presidential face-off of the 2024 election cycle. However, uncertainty remains as JD Vance, the Republican vice-presidential nominee, has yet to fully confirm his attendance.

Walz announced his decision via a post on social media, stating, "See you on October 1, JD," in response to CBS News’ invitation. The network had proposed four potential dates for the debate: September 17, September 24, October 1, and October 8. Walz’s campaign quickly agreed to the October 1 date, setting the stage for a potentially pivotal moment in the election​.

JD Vance, the Republican nominee and Ohio Senator, has not yet confirmed his participation for the October 1 debate. Although he expressed a strong likelihood of attending, he mentioned that he needs to review the moderators and discuss the rules before making a final decision. Vance told Fox News' Laura Ingraham that he “strongly” believes he’ll be there but emphasized the importance of vetting the debate’s conditions.
